The Center for Autism Receives Gift from Rich Brooks Foundation

6/11/2009

The Highlands Center for Autism received a “big” surprise at the Rich Brooks Golf Outing in Jenkins, Kentucky, on Monday, June 8th. No, it was not a hole-in-one, but something even better – a $25,000 check presented to the new Highlands Center for Autism on behalf of the Rich Brooks Foundation. The presentation was made by the University of Kentucky football coach Rich Brooks and his wife, Karen.

“What a wonderful gift from a special foundation,” commented Highlands Regional Medical Center Chairman and Highlands Center for Autism Board Member, Ted Nairn. “This money will be used to change the lives of children and families living with autism. I am thankful for the friendship of the Brooks’ family”.

In September 2008, Highlands Health System began consulting with the Cleveland Clinic Center f
or Autism to open a private, year-round day school in Floyd County serving children from the earliest diagnosis up to school age. The educational foundation of the Highlands Center for Autism is based on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which is an approach that is grounded in decades of research. Highlands Center for Autism is the only center-based program in Kentucky using ABA in a clinical educational setting.

The Highlands Center for Autism plans to expand services to include young adult services, comprehensive diagnostic evaluations, outreach services, and participation in existing research networks. With the support of organizations like the Rich Brooks Foundation, Highlands Center for Autism is changing lives!
