Prestonsburg – Wesley Christian School donated all proceeds from a recent basketball game admission to the Highlands Center for Autism. During Chapel Service on Wednesday, March 3rd, school officials presented Dr. Shelli Deskins, Director for the Center of Autism, with a check.
“So many people, today, are quick to criticize youth as lacking the character to address real-life issues,” Deskins said. “But it is very humbling and so satisfying to see the young people of Wesley Christian School working to raise money to help children they may never know; children who deal with the realities of autism each and every day.”
The Highlands Center for Autism is a private, year-round day school serving children with Autism from the earliest diagnosis through school age. The educational foundation of the program is based on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which is an approach grounded in decades of research. The Highlands Center for Autism offers the only center-based program in Kentucky using ABA in a clinical, educational setting.
“On behalf of everyone at the Center for Autism, I would like to thank the players, coaches, administrators and students whose hearts have been invested in our work,” she said. “The money they raised will make a difference in the lives of children, providing them with opportunities they might not otherwise have enjoyed.”
